Ahhh...July 4th! Normally, it is filled with cookouts and red, white and blue. This year, for us, it was sandy, sunny and celebratory! We spent the day (9-5) on Sullivan's Island basking in the sun, playing Bocce on the sand and people watching. The beach was filled to the brim with people of all ages and interests. We started the day watching dog owners and their pups chasing frisbees and tennis balls. Then an eccentric group of dancers/yoga'ers/free spirits spent an hour and a half dancing on the beach. Over the wind drifted phrases like "because we have no shame", "use your pelvic muscles", "we know we are the entertainment", and various other moves and girations. Needless to say they were the entertainment for hundreds of yards...I was impressed with their willingness to be unique. They set themselves apart from the throngs of other partying groups of people. The night brought dinner and visits to Pearlz, Social, Brick and the water park to watch fireworks!
The next day we headed to the Marina to pick up Jensen's family's boat and we spent the day on the water. We watched a lightning/thunder storm; well actually we ran away from it as it drew nearer by the hour! That nite Jensen cooked dinner, a "low country broil", and we drank sweet tea! (Firefly that is.)
Finally, Sunday came around...a morning at Charleston's market where Josh bought Allie a gift, who he seemed to miss all weekend. Then lunch at Groucho's with a ditzy waitress named Grace. Josh left and the rest of us went to see what will be Liz and Jensen's married abode. Then the four of us made a last trip to the beach, Isle of Palms this time. :) We had to get it all in....we left at 5 PM and hit major traffic, but had fun times along the way. Sad that we knew the cars we'd traveled with in minute detail bc of the time we'd spent stopping and starting with them for the past 2 hours! We took a time out at the Outback off of I-77 in Columbia and after that drove straight home arriving at 1AM...a jam-packed three days but well worth the tiredness...
Thanks for the hospitality Jensen! We loved our mini-vacation!
