12 months already

(Disclaimer:  A little late in posting this one...written in August, posted in September..oh well!)
I can't believe I am writing this entry already, but here we are, Bug...you.are.one!  Already, you are such your own little person.  Every moment we are able to spend with you is a privilege.
At this time, you are battling your first virus.  You've been a trooper.  For the most part, you just need mucho Momma time.  Another first from this past week was a 'be still my anxious heart' injury.  You love to climb and we found TV trays are more like mountain traps than mountains.  Both hands had fingers scissored between the tray's legs.  Thankfully, you were protected from a major injury and Yaya came quickly to our rescue to help with assessing the situation.  A dump truck of ice, one of Momma's tshirts, and squirts of Neosporin with a few bandaids and you were good to go.
Likes lately:
-Stacking blocks and cups.  Putting items in cups.
-Watching golf on TV.
-Putting your head on the floor to look underneath furniture.
-Taking random steps, up to eleven at one time, AKA leading Dada and Momma on to think you want to walk, when really, you just think our reactions of excitement are too funny.
-Climbing, and in order to do so, using anything or person to get a foot up.
-After climbing on chairs, couches, tables, huge beanbags, throwing yourself off regardless of the possibility someone will be there to catch you.
-Pointing at Everything and grunting.
-Finding noses, whether the said nose is attached to your face, an animal's face, another human's or a stuffed toy.
-Giving kisses-blowing kisses using your hand and saying 'mmm-aaah' or mwah!
-Dance parties and controlling the radio dials.
-Visits to the park, running in the BOB, and Clifford at the church playground.
-Eating all food, still nursing, and drinking lots of H20.

Definite dislikes:
-Diaper changes-you'd think we were trying to torture you.  Personally, I feel like I'm being tortured! :)
-Any kind of night-night time
-Your carseat, AGAIN
-Long car trips...excessive crying, screaming ensues
-Whole milk, i.e. cow's milk

Your 12 month stats were:
21 lbs. 13 oz                       30.75 inches                 18.5 inch head circumference
Your hair is starting to fill your head more now, your eyes are still deep brown, and most people think you look "just like your Dada".

As I continue to see glimpses of the little boy you are becoming, I more and more find this role of being your momma as a true gift.  (And, in all honesty, as a mirror looking back at me, which can be extremely difficult at times...)  You, baby boy, teach your Momma so much on a daily basis about how to grin at life and how to look at everything around us in wonder.  Your eyes are gateways to viewing God's gracious hand on our lives with all new perspective.

You are strong willed, little one.  And, your stoic side remains.  Our prayer for you is for God to use you in wondrous ways and for your strong will to be coupled with even greater joy.  We love your seriousness, simply because that is who you are.  You are who God made you to be and for that, we are truly thankful.  Your grin grabs our hearts everytime, as do your hugs and kisses.  Time spent with you is sweet and yes, there are times that can be trying.  We've found the more difficult times serve to remind us of who is in control...not momma or dada, not Finley, but our Heavenly Father.  They also find us on our knees seeking wisdom, new mercies for every morning, and heartfelt thanks to a God who loves us unconditionally.

Our hearts are thankful for the moment we 'knew' you on that first weekend of December 2011.  We loved you from that instant; how amazing our great God knew you even before then, and His love for you far surpasses our own!  In some respects, one year sounds so short in the expanse of a life; however, when that year is yours, sweet boy, all of the sudden it becomes a complete blur but the longest twelve months we've experienced to date.  This morning at 9:10, we were hugging you 'Happy Birthday', and even as we did so, my thoughts flew back to that exact time a year ago.  Not the difficulty of the hours prior but the moment when I heard the words "It's a boy!"  To the moment when I held that baby boy in my arms, his cry, and how shocked, overwhelmed, and in love we were.  I distinctly remember your teeny toes.  And, this morning, I was tickling those toes, which suddenly seem huge.  And so, on your first birthday, know we love you, we pray for you, and daily, we entrust you to His care.  Our prayer for you on this first birthday is for you to soon know Jesus as your Savior, to truly feel His presence in your life, and to fall in love with Him as your Lord.

Much love Mr. Finley....
Dada and Momma
