A baby boy's arm, which currently, fits just perfectly, when wrapped tightly around his Momma's bicep.
The sun hasn't made an appearance, yet we have our first regular meeting of the day. Sleepy smiles give way to soft coos and a hand wrapping around my finger. In the early morning quiet, he's drifted back to sleep, doesn't wake, but talks in his sleep. He DOES take after his Momma.
Big, brown eyes, pools like my own, bring tears to brush away. I realize he is a small piece of me in so many ways.
Momma mistake (no child was injured in this situation...ha): just mopped tile floor, baby is now incredibly mobile and decides to crawl, picture cartoon in your mind where character slips and all four appendages fly out simultaneously. Yep, that's my baby boy. Not a tear shed, just marked determination to make it to his Momma in the bathroom, still mopping, and yes, giggling.
A lovey in cow form was found weeks before baby boy's arrival. The cow was a heart purchase connected to his Dada's love for cows. On a last minute Richmond trek, I walked into the cutest boutique across the street from Short Pump and noticed a baby section. As I reached the far corner, the stuffed cow sitting on the shelf beckoned to me. I bought the cow without even giving my baby budget a second thought. And now? Finley's cow, that same cow bought because Momma's heartstrings were plucked, is now his "lovey". Well, it's the closest thing to a lovey our child would claim. He's not much for cuddling considering moving, inspecting, climbing, dumping, bulldozing, and basically getting into everything are his action verbs of choice. But, when he needs to hug or hold, Mr. Cow is there.
Another early morning meeting and his breathing has just become sleep induced, rhythmic, a music of its own. When a sound, bigger than could possibly come from such a small human, makes its way from my baby's mouth. There is no better word or phrase for it than, belch. And, this is followed by a succession of rapid fire toots. I bit my lip hard to keep from bursting out laughing. Being a momma to a little boy creates some incredibly unforgettable moments; they are not your usual garden variety of sweet and cuddly either.
Just a peek into the usual of life, here and now.
