sleep (n, v) 1. snippets of time where your eyes close and, at moments, the tension might leave your body. These snippets have a duration of no more than 3 hours and no less than 5
adult conversation (n) the continual back and forth verbal, typed, written exchanges between SPK and myself about our new favorite subject (subtopics and references to the following aforementioned favorite subject tend to include poop, pee, weight, burp, sleep, growth, love, God's grace, love, etc.)
burp (n) the former hilarious or sometimes uncalled for act of loud air pockets traveling from the stomach to exit the mouth; the same act which is now imperative and sought after with wild abandon from 8-14 times per day. Numerous positions have been known to bring forth the burp(s) and we will do whatever it takes to achieve at least one!
dance (n) otherwise known as the Mr. Finley Dance, the act of holding a baby under his bum with one hand and under his arms with the other while his back rests against your chest. As you hold said baby, bounce from side to side in a rhythmlike motion and repeat the following phrase in a musical tone "Let's do the Mr. Finley Dance...the Mr. Finley Dance..."! When facing dire circumstances, remove hand from bum and use to move feet & legs in an up and down motion. This dance is a proven calming measure. It has also been used to burp and attain any other general positive influences on our newborn.
Diesel (proper noun) nickname given by Uncle J to describe little man because of his size (currently weighing in at 12 pounds) and his tendency to be gaseous.
Bod (aka B.B.O.D.) hands-down, the tool most hated by newborns and young babies, the nasal aspirator or the blue bulb of death (*Disclaimer: This definition can be found online; we've adopted it after having to make use of it daily to combat congestion. The BBOD is also a mechanism used to torture new parents. When new parents have to use it, the result is a red-faced, screaming, and scared little one; and it is ALL the new parents' fault.)
presentable (adj) a descriptive term which no longer means clean, organized, together, or any other form of the acceptable states for home cleanliness or my appearance; instead picture stacks of stuff lying haphazard around the house, a full sink of dirty dishes, baby paraphernalia everywhere
swing (n) a Godsend, the baby whisperer, during daylight this noun provides the only way Momma can 'sleep while the baby sleeps' or generally get anything accomplished, the eater of D batteries, the movement machine
And so, as our new dictionary grows in width on a daily basis, our use for Webster's definitions decreases. I think it has been said before, we are in a whole new world or is it a whole new ballgame? Regardless, we are learning about and loving our little Finley more and more and more. Stay tuned for more dictionary definitions; I have a feeling there are more words waiting in the wings. ;)
